2 Jan 10:  The first government reaction to the attempted bombing of an airplane on Christmas Day was to treat it as a political issue.  Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, announced immediately after the attack that “the system worked.”  It’s true that the plane didn’t blow up, but that had nothing to do with “the system.”  It’s just that the bomb didn’t work!  This initial attempt to quash the problem politically failed.  After more facts came out about the attack, President Obama had no choice but to admit a few days later that the attempted bombing resulted from systemic and human intelligence failures.

National defense is paramount.  Politics must never get in the way of the government’s job of ensuring that each of us is safe and secure.  When I am in Washington, D.C., security will be a top priority; I will not accept “politics, as usual” as a solution for national security issues.  I will look at the facts objectively and work to change whatever is needed to eliminate security problems.  Political affiliation will be meaningless.  There is no room for politics when it comes to national defense.
