“Stimulus” Fund or “Slush” Fund?

15 Dec 09:  President Obama is pushing a second stimulus bill.  This is astounding, especially in light of the fact that the February 2009 stimulus package of $787 billion has not been fully spent and has been a clear failure.  We were told that if the first stimulus didn’t happen, the unemployment rate would go up to 10%, otherwise it would not go over 8%.  Now that the unemployment rate is over 10%, and still climbing, they’re at it again!

These stimulus bills have nothing to do with stimulating the economy.  They are disguised “slush funds.”  The only jobs that are increasing are government jobs.

I would work to increase private sector jobs.  This could be done by providing certainty for the future.  There are too many potential costs “up in the air” right now for employers to bring on new jobs.  Will they have to pay for a new mandated health care program?  Will there be increased taxes on energy?  Will there be increased taxes on small business income?  I think that we will not see a striking increase in private sector jobs until Washington gets its act together.  I will work to do that.

My business experience is a great base which I can exploit to help get jobs moving.  The first thing I would do would be to work with like-minded Congressmen to reduce income taxes to individuals and businesses, especially small businesses, as well as repeal health care reform, if it has passed before I go to Washington.  Remember that we will be paying taxes for many years before any so-called “benefits” start.  “Repeal” will involve refunding taxes that have been taken from the people.
